Fantasy Football Targets: Week 6
Quick Recap of Targets after five weeks. Want that stat database? –Learn more here
Running Back Targets
James White is an exciting player moving forward. A lot of Fantasy owners may have given up on White after the strong performance from Blount to start the season, but we here at Gridiron Experts believe things are about to change. With Brady back in the driver seat, there should be a shift in the pass to run ratio of play calls by the Patriots. Keeping the ball in the hands of your best player is always a smart strategy, and we expect more quick passes to the team’s best catching RB. White’s target totals should get a bump moving forward.
You wouldn’t think it, but Theo Riddick is the most targeted Fantasy running back in the NFL after five weeks. He has had at least five targets in every game, and with the injuries piling up for the Lions backfield, you can only expect to see more. Justin Forsett has just signed with Detroit after being cut from Baltimore. In my opinion, Theo Riddick owners shouldn’t sell high right now; I think more targets are coming even with Forsett added to the roster.
Bilal Powell and Josh Ferguson both rank high in total targets but aren’t contributing very much in terms of production. Powel has only 109 rushing yards with 21 receptions for 144 yards while Ferguson has only 8 total rushing yards and 127 receiving yards. One of these running backs has upside, check out Jody Smith’s Week 6 waiver wire article to see who it is.
Wide Reciever Targets
T.Y Hilton is the only wide receiver that has been targeted at least 10 times in all five games this season; that’s impressive. Despite all the offensive line problems the Colts have been dealing with, Andrew Luck has still been able to get Hilton his targets. We often hear people debating on whether or not they should start him, Hilton is a must-start every week, stop overthinking things people.
Brandon Marshall is picking up steam. The Jets wide receiver has increased his target total each week this season and gets to try to break his current streak of 15 targets against the Cardinals on Monday Night Football. Primetime brings out the best in players like Marshall, and I think he’ll get close to last weeks double-digit target totals.
The most targeted wide receiver after five NFL weeks is Buccaneers Mike Evans. Garbage time has been Evans best friend and those Fantasy owners who own him. Jameis Winston hasn’t been sharp, to say the least, The Buc’s starting QB ranks near the bottom of the league in QB Rating (75.9) and holds a dreadful 58.5 completion percentage. Tampa stole a win on Monday night against the Panthers, but Fantasy owners have to be concerned with what they’re seeing. Winston’s favorite target has been Evans by far, but if things don’t improve Evans could find himself blanketed in double coverage all season. Winston needs to show that he can hit other targets to keep defenses honest. Luckily after the Bye week the team gets to face the 49ers and Raiders.
Emmanuel Sanders, even with sub-par quarterback play, has been a target machine. Most of us this year assumed the Broncos would lean on their running game and defense to bail them out of games in 2016, but Sanders ranks 6th for targets this season.

Tight End Targets
Unless you own Greg Olsen or Jordan Reed, the Tight End position has been difficult to gauge this season. Targets usually translate into Fantasy production, but it’s been a little more complicated than that for some players in 2016. Dennis Pitta, for example, may rank 3rd in targets for Tight Ends with 37, but only has 28 receptions for 259 yards and zero TD’s. Pitta is only averaging 5.18 Fantasy points per game despite his high target numbers. Yet, a guy like Hunter Henry from the Chargers has made the most of his opportunities. Henry has caught 13 of his 18 targets for 227 yards and 2 scores. He is averaging 8.68 Fantasy points a game.
